Founded in 1998, the Chama Valley Humane Society is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) organization supported entirely through fundraising, private donations, and grants.

Our mission is to provide no-kill solutions to reduce the population of homeless cats and dogs by sponsoring a spay and neuter program for companion pets and feral cats, working with regional shelters and foster homes to rehabilitate and rehome animals, and educating those in the community we serve about responsible pet ownership.

Thank you for your support!

With no snow it’s hard to believe it’s the start of a new year but here we are!

We continued our rescue program in 2017, which included fostering dogs and cats, providing medical care if needed, and finding permanent homes in our area or transporting to shelters in New Mexico and Colorado.  We rescued 125 animals - 36 animals were adopted from our care, 86 were transferred to other facilities for adoption, and, unfortunately, 3 animals died due to illness.

Another ongoing program is our spay/neuter program. In 2017 we gave out 180 free or discounted spay/neuter vouchers in hopes we would have fewer animals to rescue this year.

We also provided vaccinations at our shot clinic to 90 animals to help keep our area’s dogs and cats healthy.

We couldn’t have done all of this without the help of many people.  Thank you to those who made generous donations to us in 2017.  We are grateful to Babes and Bullies for a grant  in support of our spay/neuter program.  And  thanks to those who assisted with, sponsored, and attended our events.  Check the Upcoming Events page for the schedule of our 2018 events and make plans to join us again this year!
Looking Back at 2017
